February 1972
A magnificent house built in the 1890's with cedar floors, Wunderlich pressed tin ceilings, French tiles on the roof and huge verandahs on three sides (the fourth side had been enclosed). |

February 1972
There was a tennis court at the side (on which we planted trees) and the house badly needed a coat of paint! |

The back verandah was close to the ground with the bathroom (outside the house) at the end and the laundry underneath. Cara Sawkins is standing at the top of the stairs. |

February 1972
Dominic, Joachim, Paul and Cara Sawkins on the huge back verandah, where we usually ate. There was no obvious dining room in the house, and the kitchen was through the window on the left. |

February 1972
The huge side verandah with french windows from the main bedroom (which was at the front of the house), the main sitting room and the kitchen. The garage is in the background. |

February 1972
In the back yard was a small single room with a front verandah which was in a similar style as the house. Was it originally maids quarters? |

The front door in its original yellow. |

The railings were in good condition, although a little rusty in places. |

March 1972
The ironwork on the side verandah was very pretty. |

February 1972
The main sitting room. Note the fretwork over the doors. The passageway led to the front door and the door went in to another large room. Note the chipboard storage boxes/seats and the brick and plank bookcases. Roger made the clock case on the wall. |

February 1972
The sitting room looking towards the kitchen door (note the fretwork and the stained and engraved glass). The passageway on the left led to another two rooms and the enclosed side verandah. Note the open fire (which was not very effective in such a large house) and the modern TV! |

October 1972
The house was on a corner and raised up, with the former tennis court on the other road. There were spectacular views from the front of the house, including to Mt Cootha. |
|
October 1972
After painting the house was returned to some of its former glory. We later grew shrubs across the front of the house. |

October 1972
Eventually the house was painted and its appearance improved dramatically. |

Another shot of the rear of the house. |
